“Abi Wright is a graphic designer, visual artist and curator
who enjoys creating work that represents her passion celebrating culture and
identity. For Abi Wright's textile collection she draws inspiration from West
African fabrics as she is fascinated by the hidden history and stories that are
told within their repetitive patterns and colours. Abi's style is simplified
and bold, as she pays homage to these striking symbolic qualities.”
We
first met UK textile designer Abi Wright a year ago at the annual ICFF
(International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in New York… by accident. Every
year as an additional event the fair focuses on a country. Last year they featured designers from
The African and African-Caribbean Design Diaspora (AACDD) in the UK.
Unfortunately the show was held in an area far away from the main event. If we
had not taken a wrong turn we may never have seen the wonderful exhibit. It was
not well attended. But we were amazed by the exhibit and by Abi Wrights
beautiful textiles. We struck up a conversation and exchanged business cards
and followed her on the internet. This year Abi had a prime location in the
main event. We were excited to see her and glad that she remembered us.
