Say goodbye to the Brooklyn Flea Market and hello to The Franklin Flea Indoor Market in Philadelphia. The market located in the old historic Strawbridge’s building at 8th and Market Street boasts and eclectic mix of vendors selling everything from antiques to jewelry to handmade items. We met Ali Souli of Souli & Souli who makes beautiful handmade leather shoes and boots. Ali, originally from Tunisia, explained that some of the handmade shoes are also hand painted with North African Tuareg patterns and the boots are mixed with leather and kilim rugs. Just by looking at them you can tell that they are well made comfortable.

Denys Takes a Road Trip Home

Getting out of the city once in a while is nourishment for the soul. While traveling thorough Hackettstown, located in the northwestern part of Warren County New Jersey, I was introduced to a store called “The Old Souk Trading Company.” The store on Main Street is jammed pack with global treasures such as Persian rugs, fine art, African art, Asian art and other beautiful and unique things. They also do interior decorating and design and silent auctions. Finding this store was an unexpected pleasure. www.oldsouktrading.com

Our Incredible Day at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women in Philadelphia

IndagaHome spent the day volunteering at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women in Philadelphia. We do this every year because it’s a rewarding experience. This year Hillary Clinton was the keynote speaker. She shared the spotlight with former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, Judge Glenda Hatchett, Wall Street business leader Sallie Krawcheck, and other prominent members of the Philadelphia professional women’s community. But it was Linda Cliatt-Wayman, the principal of Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia who stole the show. She brought the crowd of 7,000 women strong to their feet and moved to tears with her heartfelt speech about the importance of  and instilling hope in the minds of children from one of the most economically distressed community in Philadelphia.   You may recall the 20/20 special with Diane Sawyer who visited the school with TV cameras to show how Ms Cliatt-Wayman turned the school around with her extraordinary gift of teaching, leadership and love to motivate students to become the best they can be despite circumstances that are beyond their control.

Overbrook Art and Environmental Center

We spent Saturday at the Overbrook Art and Environmental Center in Philadelphia.
While the emphasis was on sustainability and healthy living, there were also workshops,
fresh food, vendors, cooking demonstrations, yoga, music and of course art and activities
for kids. We had a productive day introducing our new products.
